The College of the Ozarks
The college was founded in 1906
as an agricultural school to give worthy students an education, especially those without sufficient means. While maintaining its agricultural heritage, in 1965 it expanded to a
full four year college. C of O, better know as Hard Work U, epitomizes the Christian values, hard work and earnestness that underlie so much of the culture of southwest Missouri.
Every student works on campus providing the work force to run the entire campus including their own fire department. A tour of the campus will take you to many sites of
historical significance including the gothic limestone chapel built by the students in 1956 and Edwards Mill which is still in operation, where students grind
whole grain and upstairs produce beautiful works in the weaving studio. Next door to the mill you can browse through the greenhouses collection of 7,000 plants including the
orchids grown for Shoji Tabuchi. College of the Ozarks is also home to the Ralph Foster Museum and the Boger Gallery and Museum. All the goods produced on campus are on sale
at the Friendship House at the entrance to the college where you can also enjoy the great food at the restaurant.
